REPORT

I don’t usually pay attention to the people that walk the street; they all act the same, and they aren’t very interesting. But today, one of them did something unexpected.

There is a house here with a small yard. In the yard is a large tree, and underneath the tree is a bench. The bench has been empty for as long as I can remember; the people always walk past it on their way to somewhere else. This evening, a girl emerged from the house and moved towards the bench. She wore sweatpants and a t-shirt, and had longish, frizzy black hair. The wind often blew her hair around, and she had to move it so that she could see.

To my surprise, the girl stopped at the bench and sat down. She turned herself sideways, reclining on the arm-rest, and produced a small paper pad and pencil. She craned her neck up to look into the branches of the tree, then looked down at her pad and began scribbling, occasionally glancing back up into the tree again.

It took me a long time, but I finally identified what the girl was looking at: a small bird, concealed within the innermost folds of the tree. By the time the girl returned to her house, her pad contained a copy of the bird.

I do not know why any of this happened, but I am intensely curious. I hope to learn more soon.
